" With regard to the FOI request F0002992 FOI Request - Proposed Cycle Route, I have now had an opportunity to liaise with colleagues on this matter.

It seems that Claypit Lane is identified on the Lichfield District cycle map - as an advisory cycle route meaning it is on-road not segregated and is not a formalised cycle route requiring any type of legal order. I believe Claypit Lane is subject to relatively low vehicle flows and therefore is considered suitable for use by experienced cyclists. I have also spoken to colleagues in Development Control regarding local development sites and whether any improvements to Claypit Lane for cycling have been identified. It seems that this is not the case at this time.

There are currently no plans to provide more formalised segregated facilities along Claypit Lane for cyclists within the Integrated Transport Strategy for Lichfield District, although this strategy will be reviewed as the Lichfield Local Plan is updated. From desktop site observations it would appear difficult to provide a segregated facility along much of the lane as it has raised verges and hedgerows on both sides and there are currently no proposals to change the route from an advisory on road route to a more formalised cycle route."
