Dear M Sheikh
Thank you for your request for information from Durham University.
Colleagues have provided the information below in response to your
questions.
Can you please provide me with the following information for the
admissions cycles of the Years 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 (and 2021 if
available):
1) The number of seats available for adjustment in the courses:
a) Economics BA,
b) Economics with Management BA,
c) Finance BSc,
d) Business and Management BA;
2) The number of applicants accepted in each of the above course through
adjustment in the respective years;
3) The Most common grades students received on results day to get accepted
onto the courses through Adjustment;
4) The 5 most common subjects of the students that get accepted onto the
courses through Adjustment.
The University has not been open in clearing/adjustment for any of
specified programmes during the years for which you have requested
information. Therefore the answers to questions 1-4 are
1 = None
2 = None
3 = N/A
4= N/A
The following requests do not require an answer for each year:
5) The process of how Durham University assesses if a student should be
accepted or rejected through adjustment,
6) The contact number of Durham University through which the Adjustment
process will take place.
We don’t have one formally agreed yet but our plans for the last cycle
were:
- Applicants will need to check our website on results day which will list
the courses open in clearing/adjustment (if any) and how to apply for
them.
- There will be a number on the website to call
- They will then go through a triage system to assess suitability for the
course
- If eligible the applicant will be asked to provide evidence of
grades/entry requirements needed to a set email address, (if the grades
are not available via UCAS)
- We will communicate a decision via email for them to respond.
The process is likely to be very similar this year and will be well
advertised on our website.
If you are dissatisfied with the University’s response to your freedom of
information request, you can ask us to internally review our handling of
your request, including the application of any exemptions applied. To do
this, please email [1][Durham University request email] or write to:

Please state the grounds on which you wish the decision to be reviewed and
enclose any other information that may be useful in considering the matter
further. We aim to inform you of our decision within 20 working days from
the date your request for internal review is received.
If you are not satisfied with the results of the internal review you may
apply to the Information Commissioner's Office for an independent review.
