Dear Sir or Madam,

The Commission for Local Administration England 'CLAE' has identified that its audit committee has a membership of four. These are an independent Chair, a second independent member, the Parliamentary, and the Commission Chairman. It further states that 'The Commission Chairman is also Chief Executive and Accounting Officer of the Commission'.

Please identify who are the Independent Chair of the Audit Committee and the second independent member. Further, please identify their date of appointment and the renumeration that they receive.

The legislation appears to identify that the Chair of the CLAE should also be the Chair of the Audit Committee - this is stated in s13.1 of the CLAEs financial regulations. Please forward additionally any documentation prepared by the Chair of the CLAE that the CLAE's financial regulations should be breached and that an Independent Chair should actually be responsible for the Audit Committee.

Please could you also ensure that the minutes and AGENDAs of the Audit Committee are also made available in the developing section of your WWW site - or provide copies within the next 20 days.
