Increased demand for school places after changes to EHE Guidelines

Department for Education did not have the information requested.

Dear Department for Education,

You are currently consulting on new Draft Guidelines for EHE (Elective Home Education).

Given that the new guidelines would impose further checks on HE families and may intrude on family life, some may choose to apply for school places for their children (not wishing to be subject to the new guidelines).

Under FOIA, please can you tell me:
1) What is your estimate of HE families applying for school places as a result of the new guidelines?
2) How many school places are currently available in the UK?
3) What is the overlap between points 1 and 2, please provide any analysis of estimates of increase school applications against the available places, perhaps regionally? In short, will the potential increased demand for school places be met across the UK, and regionally?

Thanks,
C Leitch

Yours faithfully,
C Leitch

I have dealt with your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

I should explain that:

1.     No estimate has been made, so no information is held;

2.     DfE is only responsible for education in England and there is no
capacity data for independent schools in England, as DfE does not collect
it in any form - so the information requested at (2) cannot be supplied
even for England. If you wish to make a separate request to the department
for capacity data for state schools in England you can do so, but you may
be interested in the latest published data at
[1]https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics...

3.     Given the position on (1) and (2), no information is held.

If you have any queries about this email, please contact me. Please
remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.

If you are unhappy with the way your request has been handled, you should
make a complaint to the department by writing to me within two calendar
months of the date of this email. Your complaint will be considered by an
independent review panel, which were not involved in the original
consideration of your request.

If you are not content with the outcome of your complaint to the
department, you may then contact the Information Commissioner’s Office.
