Income percentiles by region and industry

We're waiting for A. D. to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear HM Revenue and Customs,
Could you please provide me, under the FOI act, data on percentile points of the income distribution of taxpayers within the following areas:

1) Percentiles 1 to 99
2) ITL1 (NUTS1) area for the UK by region
3) ITL2 (NUTS2) area for the UK by sub-region
4) ITL3 (NUTS3) area for the London Boroughs

Additionally, if possible, could you please provide separate percentile distributions for those tax payers by industry?

This is an update and enhancement of a FOI request which has your reference number FOI2023/17581.

Yours faithfully,
A. D.

Dear Information Rights Unit,

Thank you for your reply.

Based on your position, I propose to change my requests to the following:

1. PAYE and self-employment income percentiles (25, 50, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 99) by industry and London borough (NUTS3).
2. Total income percentiles (25, 50, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 99) by type of income (PAYE, self-employment, dividends, etc.) and London borough (NUTS3).

The latest tax year you have data on for each of the requests would be ideal - the data does not to be from the same tax year for both.

Please let me know if reducing the scope to only London boroughs would be enough to stay within the FOI cost limit. If not possible, would changing the requests to be by NUTS2 London regions make it feasible? I would prioritise having greater levels of granularity for the 2nd request.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

A. D.
