NCC - Information Management, Newport City Council

Dear Craig Dixhuit,

Thank you for your recent request for information which I have enclosed
below for ease of reference. Your request has been treated in accordance
with the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and/or the Environmental
Information Regulations 2004.

Your Request : REQ12162

I can confirm that we hold information that falls within the scope of your
request. The answers to your questions have been provided in red text
below.

1. How much you earned from charges to residents at recycling centres
(excluding from business/trade waste) in 2023.

Our data is available for financial years and not calendar years. Charges
to residents to dispose of rubble, plasterboard and tyres were introduced
in April 2023. Therefore data for 22/23 is not available as it precedes
the introduction of the charges. 23/24 information will be available once
the financial year comes to an end in March 2023.

2. The amount generated in your area from FPNs issued for fly-tipping in
2023.

All fly tipping data is reported to the national fly tipping database and
published by Welsh Government, available at
 [1]https://statswales.gov.wales/Catalogue/E...

Information is available for previous years to include financial year
22/23 – we do not have data for calendar years.

NCC issued 26 FPNs for the period 22/23 at a value of £400 each. It should
be noted that not all FPNs may have been paid, with some resulting in
prosecutions.

3. Your total costs associated with dealing with fly-tipping in 2023.

All fly tipping data is reported to the national fly tipping database and
published by Welsh Government, available at
 [2]https://statswales.gov.wales/Catalogue/E...

Information is available for previous years to include financial year
22/23 – we do not have data for calendar years. Cost of fly tipping for
22/23 is recorded as £236,460.

Please note that the costs incurred by the authority are calculated by the
database, and are based on the number of incidents of each ‘type’
reported, and the average national costs per incident. Therefore, they can
only be taken as an estimate for Newport and are not reflective of actual
costs, but it is the data being used for consistency and comparison
purposes with other local authorities.

I hope this provides the information you were looking for; if there is any
further information that we can provide, please submit a further request.
If you have any queries about this email or if you are unhappy with the
service you have received in relation to your request and wish to make a
