Inactivity to repair bridge from Wormegay to Shouldham Warren

The request was successful.

Dear Norfolk County Council,
The repair/ replacement of this wooden bridge was originally bought to your attention well over a year ago. Assurances have been given, including an undertaking that the bridge would be fixed by the end of the last year. It simply has not happened.

Why has it not been fixed?
When will it be fixed?

The original text appears below, for the sake of good order.
Defect type:
Public Rights of Way and Norfolk Trails : Norfolk Trails - Bridge

Trail:
Shouldham BR1

Other details:
The bridge is barricaded formally with high vis plastic fencing on both sides.
There is no indication on either side of what the problem is.
Despite there being at least 3 noticeboards in then Warren Car Park, there is no warning notice of this closure

Yours faithfully,

Brian Ferguson

Dear Mr Ferguson

Environmental Information Regulations Request ENQ-472837-B2L8H1

I refer to your request for information dated 9 April 2021.

You asked:

o The repair/ replacement of this wooden bridge was originally bought to
your attention well over a year ago. Assurances have been given,
including an undertaking that the bridge would be fixed by the end of
the last year. It simply has not happened.

o Why has it not been fixed?

Our response:

Works to replace the bridge started on 8 April 2021. The start was delayed
due to the presence of water voles (a legally protected species) and the
need to obtain the necessary permit and to carry out the required
mitigation works prior to the start of works

o When will it be fixed?

Our response:

The bridge replacement works should be completed by mid-May

o Other details:

o The bridge is barricaded formally with high vis plastic fencing on
both sides.

Our response:

As the bridge was unsafe it was closed off with red and white pedestrian
barriers and Heras fencing. The bridge has now been removed as part of the
bridge replacement works

o There is no indication on either side of what the problem is.

Our response:

Publicity has been distributed to all relevant parties, parish/county
councillors etc. Please see the attached PIN notice

o Despite there being at least 3 noticeboards in then Warren Car Park,
there is no warning notice of this closure

Our response:

Advance notices indicating bridge is closed are in place and have been
since 27/04/2020. Please see the attached.
