Dear Mr Franklyn

Request for internal review

Thank you for your response to my request concerning the department's preparations for the UK leaving the EU.

Your reply presents a complete paradox. You state that the department holds no information concerning its preparations, yet simultaneously state:
"The Government is working, both within Whitehall and more widely, to make sure that our preparations for exit from and new partnership with the EU are on track. This includes preparing effectively for all potential outcomes. The Government is carrying out an ongoing programme of comprehensive analytical work"

These statements are mutually exclusive and therefore cannot be both true. If the department is engaged in extensive preparations, please answer the FOI request. If the department is not engaged in any preparatory work, please withdraw your statement.

Yours faithfully,
Dr Mark Edwards
