Impact assessment on NHS staffing from 35K Tier 2 earnings threshold
Dear Home Office,
In 2015, your department decided to implement a new earnings threshold to allow a visa waiver for Tier 2 migrants in the UK. That threshold was set at £35,000.
According to communication with one government member of Parliament, Jake Berry, "The threshold was set following advice from the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC), an independent advisory body consisting of expert labour market economists."
As far as I can tell, there was no specific impact assessment conducted by the MAC on the impact of a £35,000 threshold on NHS staffing levels.
Given that our NHS is critically understaffed already, I assume that your department did conduct an impact assessment on this new threshold and its effect on NHS staffing levels.
Please provide me with all documentation used by your department to assess the impact/potential impact of the threshold on NHS staffing levels - whether they were created by your team or obtained from elsewhere.
Yours faithfully,
Rob Davidson
