Illegal sublets by council tenants
Dear Braintree District Council,
This is a Freedom of Information request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
From the time period between 2021 and 2024 please provide the data for the number of council
flats and houses that were found to be illegally sublet for each year.
For each case, please provide a description as to what happened. i.e outcome, prosecution, fines and please explain the platform or method used to rent out the property e.g Airbnb or Zoopla and how it was discovered.

I am writing regarding your information request received by Braintree
District Council on the 17/04/2024, case reference 7672.
Your request for information has been processed under the Freedom of
Information Act (FOIA). The Act enables access to information held by the
Council, subject to exemptions contained within the Act.
The Act does not require the Council to create information to respond to a
request if the requested information is not held, nor to give an opinion
or comment.

Please note that, Braintree District Council transferred its social
housing stock to Eastlight Community Homes in 2007, formally known as
Greenfields Community Housing.
Therefore, the Council holds no information in respect of the social
housing stock.
This information may be held by Eastlight Community Homes and I
respectfully refer you to the Freedom of Information Officer for Eastlight
Community Homes.
