I want to revoke consent for jobmatch

The request was partially successful.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

My Jobseekers Agreement includes Universal Jobmatch registration, the website say's I can revoke consent to it's
privacy policy, if I do revoke consent will I get a benefit sanction? Let me have your consent policy on jobmatch and revoking it.

Yours faithfully,
David R Jones

I have been having issues regarding Job Search Activity with the Job Center insisting that anything other then Applying for work, irregardless of what a Jobseekers agreement states. I also heard Job Center Plus staff promoting Universal Job Match as being a requirement in signing up to in order to receive benefits. When it came to my appointment with a Personal Adviser she tried to sign me up to it as well, as I already signed up to it, there must of been something that needed ticking in order for her to view my account, so when she said that I would need to check the box off in order for the job center to be able to track my job search, I asked if it was mandatory, and was told no. So I guess you are safe to revoke any 3rd Party from viewing your details, and should not affect benefits. Same applies to the Work Programme, where you can revoke your consent on them from being able to contact any potential employees on your behalf.

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request which is detailed below along with our
response.

If a person claiming job seekers Allowance refuses to give dwp permission to access there
universal job match account. will they be sanctioned? even though they have set up and are
using the universal job match account what law gives dwp the right to force a person to sign a
form (permission to access there universal job match account) under threat of a sanction.

It is not mandatory for a Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) claimant to give DWP access to their
Universal Jobmatch account. Access is only granted voluntarily by the JSA claimant once they
tick a box in their Universal Jobmatch profile. Allowing DWP access to their Universal
Jobmatch account means that JSA claimants can be more easily supported by their personal
adviser with extra help to improve their chances of being matched to a job e.g. by identifying
any skills gaps and/or training needs; and discussing how their CV can be refined.
If you have any queries about this letter please contact me quoting the reference number
above.
Yours sincerely,

This clearly states that you are under no obligation to set up a UJ account, and under current legislation you can revoke your consent at any time as it is YOUR personal information.

From the above link you will see that if you have been told its mandatory then you have been lied to, as this is essentially a civil contract you use "Standing Aside" to nullify it under contract law.

While the requestor here has asked a question referring to their own personal circumstances saying: "if I do revoke consent will I get a benefit sanction?" the request is overwhelmingly one requesting details of a general policy. It is not really a request for personal information and has not been treated as one by the department.

While we remove requests for individuals' personal information and general correspondence about an individual's personal circumstances from the site I think it's appropriate for this exchange to remain public."
