Yours faithfully,

Dear Ionut Teodor Radoi,

Thank you for your enquiry received on 9/7/2018.
Your case reference number is 00704501.

We appreciate that you have taken the time to contact us in relation to
this matter.

I apologise for any delays but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it may take
us longer than usual to give you a specific answer to the question you
have asked today. Thank you for your patience.

If you are a new keeper you must tax immediately using the Green New
Keeper Slip before you can use the vehicle on the road. You can do this
online at [1]www.gov.uk/vehicletax or by phone on 0300 1234 321. New
keepers resident in Northern Ireland must apply to their nearest Post
Office branch that deals with vehicle tax with the Green New Keeper slip,
valid insurance certificate or cover note, valid MOT (if applicable) and
the fee for tax.

Alternatively, you can submit the following documentation in person at a
Post Office® that deals with vehicle tax;

- Green New Keeper Slip
- V62 application for a vehicle registration certificate (if it has been
over 2 months since you purchased the vehicle) *
- valid MOT Certificate (if applicable)
- valid insurance certificate or cover note for vehicles registered with a
Northern Ireland address (downloaded or faxed copies are acceptable,
however photocopies are not)
- fee for vehicle tax or bank details if setting up a Direct Debit

*You will need the VIN/Chassis Number to complete the application

The vehicle will be taxed immediately at the Post Office. If you complete
a V62 application, an updated V5C will be returned within 6 weeks.

Form V62 can be downloaded
from [2]www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration-certificate-v5c-log-book or
obtained from a Post Office® that deals with vehicle tax. (You will need
the VIN/Chassis Number to complete the application)

The V149 Rates of Vehicle Tax can be found
at [3]www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables.

For advice on paying your vehicle tax by Direct Debit, please view
our [4]Youtube Video.

I trust this information will allow you to resolve matters promptly.

DVLA Contact Centre, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency

Dear Ionut Teodor Radoi,

Thank you for your enquiry received on 9/7/2018.
Your case reference number is 00704501.

We appreciate that you have taken the time to contact us in relation to
this matter.

The Cherished Transfer Scheme enables an assigned registration number to
be moved directly from one vehicle to another. Only the registered keeper
of a vehicle is entitled to apply to transfer its number.

You should not sell or dispose of the vehicle until you receive a
replacement V5C Registration Certificate which can take up to 6 weeks. If
you do sell or dispose of the vehicle before you get a replacement V5C, I
must point out that you may lose your entitlement to the number.

Please note, that for vehicles to take part in the Cherished Transfer or
Retention scheme, they are required to meet the following criteria:

- be available for inspection
- be subject to either an MOT/PCV or a Goods Vehicle Test
- the vehicle tax for both vehicles must be currently valid.
Alternatively, it may have expired or been refunded within the last 5
years providing a continuous Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) has
been made

The quickest way you can apply to keep your registration number on a V778
Retention Certificate is by using our online service. You will need your
latest V5C and a valid credit or debit payment card. Your application will
be processed immediately and you will receive your V778 and replacement
V5C within 5 working days.

Once the number has been retained, you can then assign it immediately to
another vehicle using this service.

The service is available from 7am to 7pm.

Please note, that if you are a new keeper you must tax immediately using
the Green New Keeper Slip before you can drive or apply to transfer a
registration number. You can do this online at www.gov.uk/vehicletax or by
phone on 0300 1234 321. New keepers resident in Northern Ireland must
apply to their nearest Post Office branch that deals with vehicle tax with
the Green New Keeper Slip, valid insurance certificate or cover note,
valid MOT (if applicable) and the fee for tax.

DVLA will allocate a replacement number to the vehicle currently carrying
the vehicle registration number, which will normally be the previous
registration number of the vehicle. However, if the previous number cannot
be returned another suitable number will be issued.

If the vehicle that the number is being transferred to is already
registered with a personalised plate, this number will become void, unless
an application to transfer or retain that number is made at the same time.

DVLA are no longer required to issue a replacement MOT Certificate
following a personalised registration application. The MOT database will
be updated electronically to reflect the change of registration number.
The current MOT Certificate will remain valid until its expiry date.

I trust this is of assistance to you.
