i360 /Development
Please could you answer the following questions under the Freedom of Information Act:-
1. Can you confirm that the Arches immediately below the West Pier were used as a "Gun Emplacement" and for other seafront defences during the Second World War?
2. Did the Council consider this usage when making the decision to demolish the internal structure of these Arches as part of the i360 Ltd development?
3. Did the Council and i360 Ltd consider keeping a record of the artifacts, photographs and other archives as part of the proposed Heritage Centre?
4. Did the Council and i360Ltd consult with English Heritage and other national/regional heritage organisations about these West Pier Arches and their future?
5. What is the proposed use for the West Pier Arches?

Yes
2. Did the Council consider this usage when making the decision to demolish the internal structure of these Arches as part of the i360 Ltd development?
Yes, the demolition of the arches also required approval from English Heritage which was granted.
3. Did the Council and i360 Ltd consider keeping a record of the artifacts, photographs and other archives as part of the proposed Heritage Centre?
The Heritage Centre is being developed by the West Pier Trust who will no doubt wish to cover the full history of the pier including wartime records.
4. Did the Council and i360Ltd consult with English Heritage and other national/regional heritage organisations about these West Pier Arches and their future?
Yes.
5. What is the proposed use for the West Pier Arches?
Commercial – retail and catering.
