Dear Welsh Water,

I wish to make a FOI request. This request related to Human health and safety. Can tell me whether fluoride is added to water in Wales. If fluoride IS added to drinking water in Wales, I would like to know the commencement date, how much is added, if there have been any changes in the amount added, and the dates of any changes.

Yours faithfully,

Mr Ian Hunter, email: [email address]

Dear Mr Hunter

Request for information

We write further to your request for information dated 27^th October 2021
which we have been considering under
the Environmental Information Regulations 2004.

We can confirm that fluoride is not currently added to drinking water at
any of Welsh Water’s water treatment works nor is the necessary
legislation in force yet in Wales. The question of whether fluoride, or
any other additive deemed to provide a benefit to health, should be added
to tap water is a matter that should be decided by health authorities and
the Government. If the addition of fluoride to drinking water becomes a
requirement by law, then Welsh Water will, of course, meet our legal
obligations

We have also attached a leaflet on fluoridation for further information.

We hope that this response is clear. Should you have any questions, please
contact us by email at [1][email address]

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the
right to ask for an internal review. Internal review requests should be
submitted within 40 working days of the date of receipt of this response
and should be addressed to Company Secretary, Linea, Fortran Road, St
Mellons, Cardiff CF3 0LT

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have
the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a
decision.

Yours sincerely,
