HS2 train specification. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk...

Only Classic Compatible trains are being sought at this stage.
Trains are 200m long & can run in pairs.
The trains need to be electrically powered to meet the HS2 specification.
It seems unlikely that bi-mode trains could be achieved due to space & weight limitations.

HS2Enquiries, High Speed Two (HS2) Limited

Dear Michael Bradley

I refer to your request received by HS2 Ltd on 22 May in which you  sought
access to information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000  (‘the
FOIA’). Specifically you sought access to:

I would like to request information regarding these 'Classic Compatible'
trains. Specifically I would like to know...

1) The length of these trains ?

2) Whenever or NOT these trains will be 'bio-modes' ?

Specifically, can you please define what you require when you ask about
'bio-modes'? I assume you mean bi-modes, but to ensure clarity, I would
ask you to confirm this, to make sure that the assumption is correct.

Accordingly, I invite you to consult with HS2 Ltd with a view to
amending or clarifying your request so that it is in a form which complies
with the Act and provides the information necessary to identify the
information sought.

Your response

I would appreciate it if you would respond to the issues raised above
within 40 days of the date of this correspondence, otherwise I will
assume  that you do not wish to clarify your request and no further action
will be  taken by HS2 Ltd.

Best wishes

Alistair

Dear Mr Hobbs,

Please can you outline what HS2's definition of a 'bio-mode' is ?

Yours faithfully,
MBradley

HS2Enquiries, High Speed Two (HS2) Limited

Dear Mr Bradley

We are not aware of any such definition within the team, which is why we
made the assumption that it might be bi-modes.

Please clarify whether our assumption is correct please, as we need to be
clear what information is required before we can move on.

Thank you

Carl

Mr Bradley

A quick Google search reveals the following:

[1]https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/r...

Which states “New bi-mode train technology offers seamless transfer from
diesel power to electric that is undetectable to passengers”.

Please clarify whether our assumption is correct please, as we need to be
clear what information is required before we can move on.

Thank you
