Dear Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council,

Dear Mr Hutchinson

We write further to your enquiry about the use of glyphosate on Hoylake Beach and apologise for the delay in responding.

In response we can advise that the decision to use glyphosate at Hoylake Beach was part of an ongoing maintenance and control programme of invasive grass species. The decision to use glyphosate was taken due to it being a fully licenced product, cleared for use in such locations and for control of the target species.

The decision to spray at the time was due to the fact that any future decisions around the use of glyphosate also contained the caveat that the control and treatment of invasive species would still continue/remain an option for the Authority. Equally, the ongoing development of the future management of the use of glyphosate has put a moratorium on its use and the present maintenance regime of Hoylake Beach, and the subsequent renewal of approaches and potential agreements that may be required.

If you then remain dissatisfied with this response, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner at https://ico.org.uk/global/contact-us/

Yours sincerely
