How to report content which might lead to users harming themselves or others
Dear Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport,
I saw that in October 2017 the Internet Safety Strategy was reported to be looking at how the govt would ensure "Britain is the safest place in the world to be online".
How does this department know about reported harmful content?
How should the public report websites (as opposed to social media platforms and search engines) which have harmful content?
Yours faithfully,
Miss B White

Dear Correspondence Team,
Thank you for your response which is helpful, especially when I accidentally did not use the FOI correctly. I am grateful to you.
I am however disappointed that your answer has confirmed my suspicions that the world wide web is a dangerous yet self-regulated space. For the lawless it is unlimited and it appears to be impossible to raise complaints or to curtail the activity of prolific international actors publishing material from any place in the world, pushing suicidal material to our vulnerable people with no apparent ability to control what is happening. I think it puts our most vulnerable people at immense risk.
I look forward to the publication of your new legislation as a first stepping stone across the rapids. I hope it creates a new path for a better future, it is by no means an end point. Only a very beginning and we will have to press forward very quickly before the glaciers melt.
Yours sincerely,
Miss B White
