How scientific are your science courses?

The request was refused by Anglia Ruskin University.

Dear Anglia Ruskin University,

Over the period of 2012 to present day, what weighting for scientific knowledge in the marking criteria exist for all Bachelors of Science degrees offered by the university?

Can you also provide minutes for the ethics committee review meetings in regards to all scientific research of both Faculty and Departmental reviews

Yours faithfully,

Jason Kruse Iles

Dear Mr Iles,

Thank you for your request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

I can respond as follows:-

1. The data around Scientific Knowledge in the Marking Criteria is contained in the Module Definition Forms (MDFs). You will have already been given these with respect to your course.

2. Your ethics application document was approved by the Departmental Research Ethics Panel (DREP) on 12 February 2014 and on 14 February 2014 the Faculty Research Ethics Panel (FREP) ratified this decision. I have attached the extract from the DREP which shows your ethics application.

As the FREP decision was too late to be included in the minutes of the February 2014 FREP as it took place on 18 February 2014, it was noted in the minutes of the March 2014 FREP. Your name is not specifically mentioned in the FREP minutes which simply state that the ratification of the Biomedical DREP ethics applications on 14th February 2014 was noted to FREP as per item 4.1 of the March 2014 FREP minutes.

With kind regards
Jackie Barlow

Dear Anglia Ruskin University,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Anglia Ruskin University's handling of my FOI request 'How scientific are your science courses?'.

I do not consider either of the items to have been addressed.

1. I have only been provided with marking criteria for my enrollment years which have little to no mention of any grading being based on scientific knowledge. I understand this has now drastically changed from announcements made by university staff. Can you please provide all marking criteria as per my original request.

2. I requested the full disclosure of the FREP and DREP ethics committee minutes as a freedom of information request. I did not make a subject access request in regards to this matter.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/h...

Yours faithfully,

Jason

Dear Jason

On 7 September 2015 you asked for an Internal Review of Mrs Barlow’s
response dated 27 August.

I have now reviewed her response.

In relation to your first point your reference to “specific knowledge” is
ambiguous in the extreme.  However, as Mrs Barlow has indicated, the MDF’s
contain detail of marking arrangements and these have been made available
to you.  I understand that you may wish to see MDF’s in some other way but
they are not detailed.

On the second point Mrs Barlow has given you her response with which I
concur.

Yours sincerely
