How much do you give back in overpaid tax?

The request was successful.

Dear HM Revenue and Customs,

I would like to know the total amount of money that you are expected to return to individuals as a result of overpayments on income tax. E.g. the figure in pounds for the 17-18 tax year.

Yours faithfully,

Beth Howard

Dear Beth Howard,

Freedom of Information Act 2000 Acknowledgement

Thank you for your communication of 11th April which has been passed to
HMRC's Freedom of Information Team.

We have allocated the above reference which you should quote if you need
to contact us.

The Team will arrange for a reply to be sent to you which will either
comply with HMRC's obligations under Freedom of Information Act or, if we
think it's an enquiry that we don't need to address under the terms of the
Act, let you know why. If it is the latter we will, if possible, pass it
on to a more appropriate part of the Department for answer.

Yours sincerely

Dear [email address] on behalf of FOI Central Team,

FOI2018/00772

My request does only refer to PAYE 'overpayments'.

Furthermore, it would be okay if you provided the information for the 2016/17 tax year instead of the 2017/18 one if the figures are not available.

Yours sincerely,

Beth
