How Many Social Workers & AMHPs Have Been Involved in Diagnosis and Treatment of Dissociative Identity Disorder and/or Repressed Memory Therapies?

Leeds City Council did not have the information requested.

Dear Leeds City Council,

How many Social Workers or AMHPs have been involved in the diagnosis and treatment of people with Dissociative Identity Disorder and/or repressed memory therapies, what qualification is required to do this if any, what supervision are they required to have if any and what proportion of service users receiving this treatment have been considered to have made a recovery?

As confirmation that Leeds City Council have in the past treated people for Dissociative Identity Disorder I present the backing on the link below which has PARIS ID 207281 dated 19th June 2012 and which is a discharge plan submitted by a Leeds City Council Social Worker and AMHP. This was obtained from records held by Leeds and York Partnership NHS Founcdation Trust. Details identifying any individual have been redacted to be complaint with GDPR and the confidentially requirements of making this FOI public.

Query relates to period 2000-present however if this would make answering the query arduous, 2010 to present would be acceptable.

Yours faithfully,

Dear Marie

Freedom of Information Request (Ref: 83353)

I refer to the above and your request dated 15 November 2018. I have
contacted the relevant services and now provide a response to your request
relating to Diagnosis and treatment of Dissociative Identity Disorder .

How many Social Workers or AMHPs have been involved in the diagnosis and
treatment of people with Dissociative Identity Disorder and/or repressed
memory therapies, what qualification is required to do this if any, what
supervision are they required to have if any and what proportion of
service users receiving this treatment have been considered to have made a
recovery?

In terms of Social Workers employed by Leeds City Council it is impossible
to say how many of them may have been working within a multi-disciplinary
team with individuals with this type of disorder, that is not data that we
would routinely classify on our client information system. Social Workers
are not employed as therapists and therefore they are not expected to have
any therapeutic qualifications and as they do not undertake that
particular role therefore they are not required to have any specific
supervision. In terms of the proportion of individuals receiving the
treatment described this is not information that is collated by the
Council. It may be that Leeds and York Partnership Foundation Trust would
be able to provide an answer to the proportion of people considered to
have made a recovery.

As confirmation that Leeds City Council have in the past treated people
for Dissociative Identity Disorder I present the backing on the link below
which has PARIS ID 207281 dated 19th June 2012 and which is a discharge
plan submitted by a Leeds City Council Social Worker and AMHP. This was
obtained from records held by Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation
Trust. Details identifying any individual have been redacted to be
complaint with GDPR and the confidentially requirements of making this FOI
public.

Leeds City Council staff do not “treat people for Dissociative Identify
Disorder”, Social Workers may be involved as a Social Worker with
individuals with that particular disorder but they are not the
professional providing “treatment”.

I trust that this response is satisfactory. If however you are
dissatisfied with this response you have a right to appeal to an
independent officer within the council. They will re-examine your request
and assess whether we have adhered to the requirements of the act. Should
you wish to follow this course of action please address your concerns in
writing to the above address.

You also have a right under Section 50 of the Freedom of Information Act
to ask the Information Commissioner to decide whether we have met with our
obligations under the act.  The Commissioner has however made it clear
that she expects all applicants to exhaust internal appeals procedures
prior to making such an application. Should you wish to contact the
Commissioner’s office then you can write to the following address:

Office of the Information Commissioner, Wycliffe House, Water Lane,
Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

You may also contact the Commissioner via her website at [1]www.ico.org.uk

I trust that this is self-explanatory.  If you have any queries please
contact me using the contact information above.

Yours sincerely
