Dear Mr McKeown,

Freedom of Information Request F18-013

Thank you for your request for information as copied below.  You have
asked how many single-use plastic-lined cups did the House of Commons buy
in 2017.

We have interpreted your request to be for information about take-away hot
drinks cups and water cups available from our catering venues. These
venues serve over 15,000 parliamentary pass-holders (MPs, Peers, their
staff and staff of both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, civil
servants, external contractors, and journalists), as well as over 1
million members of the public who visit Parliament each year.  Although
these single-use cups are predominantly cardboard, they have a thin PET
plastic inner coating (rather than fully polystyrene, for example) meaning
they currently cannot be recycled.

The information you have requested is held by the House of Commons and in
2017 the House purchased 874,075 of these cups.

Lastly, it may help you to know that the House of Commons publishes
information about sustainability measures undertaken by the Catering Team,
and this is available on our website here:
[1]https://www.parliament.uk/documents/comm...
We hope that is also useful.

You may, if dissatisfied with the handling of your request, complain to
the House of Commons. Alternatively, if you are dissatisfied with the
outcome of your request you may ask the House of Commons to conduct an
internal review of any decision regarding your request.  Complaints or
requests for internal review should be addressed to: Information Rights
and Information Security Service, Research & Information Team, House of
Commons, London SW1A 0AA or [2][House of Commons Administration Committee request email].  Please ensure
that you specify the full reasons for your complaint or internal review
along with any arguments or points that you wish to make.

If you remain dissatisfied, you may appeal to the Information Commissioner
at Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF,
[3]www.ico.gov.uk.

Yours sincerely,
