How many IT systems and processes have been moved to a single unitary version?

Dave Orr made this Freedom of Information request to Somerset Council Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

The request was successful.

Dear Somerset Council,

Part of unitary savings are unitary ways of working for efficiency which rely on using a single IT system, so that staff from 5 councils can work in the same way, with the same IT and documented processes etc for efficiency, flexibility and consistency of service delivery.

Savings will also arise from paying for less IT support etc if 4/5/6 duplicated systems are replaced with one unitary system.

Q1a. Please list all line of business IT applications inherited from the 5 founder councils?

Q1b. Please disclose the estimated savings that would be made for each duplicated line of business system if they became a unitary system (incl costs payback time and the savings over the 5 years after the costs are recovered)?

Q2a. Please disclose the schedule for each duplicated line of business systems to be moved on to one unitary system?

Q2b. Please disclose the forecast costs for moving all line of business systems on to one unitary system and the budget available?

Q3. Please list all line of business IT applications that have now moved to a single unitary system (and are live)?

Yours faithfully,

Dave Orr

Somerset Council

Dear Somerset Council,

A follow up question.

Answer: "Most of the consolidation has been achieved across corporate and support applications. By their nature line of business applications, which support customer facing service delivery are more complex. These can only be consolidated once the business processes that they support have been redesigned, and much of that work is still ongoing".

How many line of business applications (eg Revs and Bens, Planning etc) have completed process analysis and redesign? Please name them. How many are still in progress undergoing process analysis and redesign? Please name them.

Yours sincerely,

Dave Orr
