This information is not held.
Dogs found to be straying ( definition- not on a lead & no signs of Owner being
present & seen roaming on public greenspace) are managed by a third
party/Contractor in accordance with the articles and pertinent to article 6
(a-c) of section . 149 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990
Where any seized dog is not reunited with its Owner, after 7 nights in the
kennelling facility, on the 8th day, the seized dog is gifted to the Contractor,
at which point is no longer the legal responsibility of the Council.
The Contractor is not contractually obliged to advise the local authority when a
dog is put to sleep. The decision is made by the Veterinary Practitioner at the
kennelling facility following an assessment. The process is documented. Dogs
will only be put to sleep when they are terminally ill or when they cannot be
re-homed or fostered.
