Dear William

Further to your email dated 8th June 2015, please find the Trust's response below.

I would like to know how many calls have been attended by crews that are only student paramedics. Please be clear that is either single vehicle with a student, or a duel crew where both are students. Could you give me this information from November 2014 to Date.

From November 2014 to date, there were 4477 calls attended by student paramedic only crews. A cross check with a list of incidents attended by qualified crews showed that 4107 of these incidents were attended by a qualified crew, therefore only 370 were attended by Student Paramedic crews without a qualified crew attendance. These incidents include all vehicles excluding PSIAM,CSD and CFRs.

I am obliged to advise you that if you are dissatisfied with the Trust’s response to your request you have a right to complain to the Trust and should set out your concerns to the Freedom of Information Officer, EEAST, Hospital Approach, Broomfield, Chelmsford, Essex, CM1 7WS or by email to [East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust request email]. If you remain dissatisfied following this, you have a right under Section 50 of the FOIA to seek a determination from the Information Commissioner on whether the Act has been properly applied by the Trust. For more information, please see www.ico.gov.uk.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information.

Kind regards

FoI Officer

What those figures don't show is how long it might have taken for a "qualified" member of staff to actually turn up or whether that person was a paramedic or indeed a lower qualified technician meaning no paramedic ever turned up.
