How many bank license applications have been made monthly since July 2013?

The request was successful.

Dear The Financial Conduct Authority,

I would like to know how many applications have been made for bank licenses each month dating back to July 2013. This will help to show a trend of the amount of firms attempting to become banks over the years.

Yours faithfully,

Theo Osborn.

Dear Mr Osborn

Thank you for your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the
Act), for the following information:

“I would like to know how many applications have been made for bank
licenses each month dating back to July 2013.”

As you may be aware, as at 1 April 2013, the Financial Services Authority
(‘FSA’) ceased to exist and was replaced by two new organisations: the
Bank of England which carries out the functions of the Prudential
Regulation Authority (‘PRA’), and the Financial Conduct Authority (‘FCA’).
Further information on these can be found at [1]www.fca.org.uk.

Your request has now been considered. All banks are Dual Regulated, the
process is led by the PRA with the FCA providing consent. Therefore, we
believe it is more appropriate for the PRA to respond to your request for
information. We have contacted the PRA and they have confirmed that they
are content with this request being transferred to the PRA so they can
respond to you.  You should therefore receive a response for your request
from the PRA.

Should you require the PRA contact details, they are as follows:
