Our Ref. FR05524
Dear Ms Adshead
Thank you for your email dated 12 February 2018, in which you ask for
information regarding fitness to practise cases against Hearing Aid
Dispensers.
Your request has been handled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000
(FOIA).
Please find below our response to your questions.
1. How many allegations have been made against Hearing Aid Dispensers
in the last three years?
This information is contained within the fitness to practise (FTP) annual
reports, which is available in the Publications section of our website.
2. How many of these allegations made it to the hearing stage?
This information is contained within the FTP annual reports, which is
available in the Publications section of our website.
3. How many of these allegations were supported by BSHAA with
'evidence', 'statements' or information against the dispenser?
For the last three years we have reported on i.e. 2014/15, 2015/16,
2016/17 we have identified three cases that were “supported” by the BSHAA.
Please note that one of these cases related to three registrants but the
cases for two of them were not created until after 1 April 2017 so were
not captured in the 2016/17 FTP annual report.
4. How many of these hearing aid dispensers were not BSHAA members?
Of the three cases identified above, only one of these related to a person
who was not a BSHAA member.
If we are to consider all the cases for Hearing Aid Dispensers (HAD) in
the last three reporting years, this information is not readily captured
as registrants are not required to inform us of their membership with
BSHAA.
We have reviewed all the cases and identified only one case where we know
that the registrant was not a member of BSHAA. Eleven cases were
identified where we were able to identify that the registrant was a member
of BSHAA. We were unable to identify whether or not the registrant was a
member of BSHAA in the remaining cases.
5. The outcomes of these hearings?
This information is contained within the FTP annual reports, which is
available in the Publications section of our website.
