Dear East Ayrshire Council,

I enquire as to how many people are currently on the housing waiting list in east ayrshire and
what is the average time taken before being allocated a house?
1.how many new build social housing has been built in the last 10 years by the council and how many properties have been demolished in the same time scale.
if more have been demolished than built, how do you plan to ease the housing crisis in east ayrshire?

2. how many people are housed in homeless hostels per year the last six years
and what is the cost of this accomodation?

how many housing properties have been sold to private landlords in the last 10 years
and how can the council justify selling off council properties to private landlords, when there is a chronic lack of council housing for rent

Yours faithfully,

bob watt

Dear Bob Watt,

Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

I refer to your request for information made under the terms of the above
legislation, received by East Ayrshire Council on 3^rd April 2018.

For ease of reference I have listed our response alongside your questions
below:

1.    How many people are currently on the housing waiting list in East
Ayrshire?

There were 3,870 applicants on the Common Housing Register list at 31^st
March 2018.

2.    What is the average time taken before being allocated a house?

The length of time an individual spends on the waiting list is dependent
on their specific circumstances and area choices.  For those housed during
2017/18, the average time spent on the waiting list was approximately 12
months.

3.    How many new build social housing has been built in the last 10
years by the Council?

277 units.

4.    How many properties have been demolished in the same timescale?

384 units

5.    How many people are housed in homeless hostels per year for the last
six years and what is the cost of this accommodation?

Information relating to the number of persons housed in homeless hostels
over the past 6 years is readily available via the Homeless Statistics
page of the Scottish Government’s website, via the undernoted link:

[1]http://www.gov.scot/Topics/Statistics/Br...

Costs of providing this accommodation are as follows (reported in fiscal
years):

·         2013/14 - £960,004

·         2014/15 - £983,958

·         2015/16 - £695,587

·         2016/17 - £670,739

·         2017/18 - £668,010

6.    How many housing properties have been sold to private landlords in
the last 10 years?

The information is not held to fully answer this query.  15 properties are
recorded as being sold outwith Right to Buy but the purchaser is not on
file.

I hope that the information supplied is of use to you, however please do
not hesitate to contact me if I can be of further assistance. If you are
dissatisfied with the way in which your request has been dealt with, you
