Dear Ms Yates

I would like request clarification on your FOI request submitted to the
Council on 26/07/2017.

Please can you clarify what you mean by private tenants? Do you mean
people who have approach us for housing in our district or anyone who has
placed themselves in a B&B/any other unsupported accommodation and tried
to claim?

Thanks,

Ella Malyon

Dear Ella Malyon,

Thank you for your email.

For clarification, we are looking for the number of individuals who are claiming housing benefit in Bed and Breakfast/Board and Lodging private accommodation (i.e. not owned by the council, housing associations or supported accommodation) and who have not been placed there by the council under homelessness duties.

I hope this answers your question, but please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information or have any questions.

Yours sincerely,

Rachel Yates

Dear Ella Malyon,

Thank you for your email.

The latter part of your email is correct. To clarify, we are looking for the number of individuals who are claiming housing benefit in Bed and Breakfast/Board and Lodging private accommodation (i.e. not owned by the council, housing associations or supported accommodation) and who have not been placed there by the council under homelessness duties?

Yours sincerely,

Rachel Yates

Dear Ella Malyon,

I am sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you, i didn't realise you were waiting for a reply.

Your latter assumption is correct, we are looking for the number of individuals who self refer into B&B or board and lodging accommodation who claim housing benefit within the years specified in the original request, we are also looking for the snapshot number of live cases on 1st January in each of the years specified.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any more information.

Yours sincerely,

Rachel Yates

Dear Ella Malyon,

Thank you for providing this information, it is most useful.

Can I just clarify that you have provided information for the number of individuals who are claiming housing benefit in Bed and Breakfast/Board and Lodging private accommodation (i.e. not owned by the council, housing associations or supported accommodation) and who have not been placed there by the council under homelessness duties?

Yours sincerely,

Rachel Yates

Ella Malyon, St Albans District Council

Dear Rachel

the figures provided are in respect of private bed and breakfast type accommodation - not individuals in Council owned accommodation or those placed in bed and breakfast type accommodation by the Council to discharge a duty under the relevant homelessness legislation.
