Information Request: 

I would like to request the following information:

1, the number of mandatory reconsiderations lodged against housing
benefit and council tax benefit decisions for each of the last four
years

2, the number of mandatory reconsiderations in favour of the
individual claimant

3, the identity of the reviewing body, ie the council or an
outsourced provider and, if the latter, the identity of that
outsourced provider.

        

Our Response:

1, the number of mandatory reconsiderations lodged against housing
benefit and council tax benefit decisions for each of the last four
years

2, the number of mandatory reconsiderations in favour of the
individual claimant

 

Revisions (internal reviews following customer request)

 

2016/17 = 461 (179 revised in customer favour)

 

2017/18 = 438 (149 revised in customer favour)

 

2018/19 = 401 (155 revised in customer favour)

 

2019/20 - 227 so far this year (83 in customer favour)

 

 

Appeals (external tribunals)

 

2016/17 - 7 HB and 1 CTS, all either dismissed or struck out

 

2017/18 - 5 HB and 1 CTS, all either dismissed or struck out

 

2018/19 - 4 HB and 1 CTS, all either dismissed or struck out

 

2019/20 - 12 HB so far (2 allowed, 7 without decisions yet, 3
dismissed) and 3 CTS (2 dismissed and 1 without a decision yet)

 

3, the identity of the reviewing body, ie the council or an
outsourced provider and, if the latter, the identity of that
outsourced provider.

 

 

Internal reviews are outsourced, and undertaken by Serco

 

External Reviews are undertaken by the HM Courts and Tribunals
Service for Housing Benefit appeals, and by the Valuation Tribunal
Service for Council Tax Support appeals.
