Dear James Calderwood

Thank you for your request for information received on 19 May 2023.

What does average waiting time mean I'm home seeker with priority I've
been on the housing register for over 7 years 2 months it says average
waiting time 7 years 4 months 21 days for a 1 bedroom but don't exactly
understand what average waiting time means

The average waiting time previously requested is reached through the usual
calculation of an average. The total wait of all applicants who received a
one bedroom property in a set time (for example over one year) would be
added together and then divided by the total number of allocations. This
would give an average figure.

It should however be noted that a number of factors can affect the waiting
time of any applications which would be dependent upon the individual
circumstances and priority status of applicants, the availability of
properties and under the Choice Based Lettings scheme, the personal
preference of property of those bidding under the scheme. Dependent upon
these factors, applicants may wait less or longer than any average
estimation of waiting time.

We are unable to assist you further under the Freedom of Information route
you have requested but colleagues in the Housing Allocations team will be
able to assist you with any further questions relating to your individual
application, priority status and waiting time for a suitable property.
