Hospitality and Gifts for Councillors

Mr Kelly made this Freedom of Information request to Wandsworth Borough Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

We're waiting for Mr Kelly to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Wandsworth Borough Council,

As part of your code of conduct for employees they must declare all gifts and hospitality and other benefits offered to them.

I would like to see all the Declarations of Gifts, Hospitality and Other Benefits, (whether gifts were accepted, not accepted or passed on) that each of the current 60 councillors (sometimes called members) have filed since they were first elected to the council, whether these gifts were approved or not. Including any declarations made during any previous terms the councillor may have served - regardless of if the terms were consecutive.

If the original documents themselves cannot be shared, which is preferred, a summary which includes the following information seperated by councillor would suffice:

- Who the Gift, hospitality or other benefit offered by including name, organisation and address.
- Description of gift, hospitality or other benefit including offer date and date and location of hospitality and names of other officers/ members involved
-Estimated value of the hospitality or other benefit
- The Reason for the offer
- Treatment of gift, hospitality or other benefit
- Chief Officer’s comments and any further action
- Date of Approval or Dissaproval

Yours faithfully,

Mr Kelly

Dear Wandsworth Borough Council,

Thank you for getting back to me.

If I may direct you to Section 8 of ICO's guidance on FOIA requests for organisations ' Recognising a request made under the Freedom of Information Act' ( which you can find here : https://ico.org.uk/media/for-organisatio...)

In this guidance ICO says the following on what constituent parts of a requestors name are sufficient to meet the requirement of supplying a real name:

'25. Any variation of the requester’s title or first name combined with their surname (e.g. Mr Smith or John Smith) will be sufficient to meet this requirement.'

They then provide the following example:

'Example
A requester named Robert Jones could call themselves ‘Rob Jones’, ‘Bobby Jones’, ‘R Jones’, ‘Bob Jones’ or ‘Mr Jones’. However, they could not just use ‘Robert’, ‘Bob’, ‘Bobby’ or ‘R.J’.'

I would ask that you process my request on the basis that I have met this standard - in that I have already supplied my real title and surname.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Kelly
