Horizon shortfall scheme - final settlements
Dear Post Office Limited,
This request concerns the information on this page of the POL website
https://corporate.postoffice.co.uk/en/ho...
The tables give the "Total number of settlement offers sent to date" but it is not clear how many of these settlement offers have been accepted and paid.
To date how many people have accepted a final settlement offer and received a final payment?
Yours faithfully,
R Woods

Dear information rights
Please could I remind you that I am still waiting for a reply.
Since I made my request for information on 4 February 2024, I have seen two different figures:
On the Post Office website it says
"more than 82% of claims in the Horizon Shortfall Scheme have received full and agreed compensation;"
https://corporate.postoffice.co.uk/en/ho... (last updated 5 February 2024).
On 27 February Nick Read told the Business and Trade Committee
"I have heard many comments today about the HSS, but from our perspective, certainly, we believe that we have completed the first tranche, which was the 2,417 of the original applicants to the HSS. We have made offers to them all, and I think in the region of 62% have already been settled."

How do you reconcile these two figures?
Yours sincerely,
R Woods

Dear R Woods,
As your recent request was not a request under FOIA, it's been passed to me to reply. At the time, of the original applicants to Horizon Shortfall Scheme, more than 82% had settled claims; the Scheme remains open to late applications, and claims continue to be received. Of those, again at the time, around 62% of offers had been accepted.
The numbers of course continue to change and data in relation to the Scheme is published and regularly updated on our website. This can be found here: https://corporate.postoffice.co.uk/en/ho...
I hope this is helpful,
Melanie Corfield
