Homelessness MAIN QUESTIONS

The request was successful.

To whom this may concern,

I am seeking information from your local authority under the Freedom of Information Act (2000), regarding the topic of homelessness in your area. My questions are as follows:

• What was the number of people found to be rough sleeping in the area administered by the council in each of the years from 2010 – 2018?
• What was the number of people found to be homeless in the area administered by the council in each of the years from 2010 to 2018?
• How much was spent by the council on schemes aimed at tackling homelessness in each of the years between 2010 and 2018?
• How much was spent by the council on ‘Housing First’ style schemes aimed at tackling homelessness in each of the years between 2010 and 2018?
• How much was spent by the council from Government grants on ‘Housing First’ style schemes aimed at tackling homelessness in each of the years between 2010-2018?

If you can identify any ways that my request could be refined, I would be grateful for any further advice and assistance.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me via email and I will be pleased to clarify what I am asking for and discuss the request.

Thank you very much for your help regarding this topic, I look forward to you reply in the near future.

St.Helens Council, St Helens Metropolitan Borough Council

Good morning,

Thank you for your enquiry made under the Freedom Of Information request.

I can confirm the following in response to your questions.

The number of rough sleepers found on a given night in St Helens between
2010 and 2018 was nil for the years 2010 upto 2015.  In 2016, 2 Rough
Sleepers found, 2017 we changed the methodology to an estimate informed by
a hotspot count and reported 9 rough sleepers and in 2018 we reported 14
rough sleepers.  This years estimate takes place in November and the
figure will be published by Government in early 2020.

In terms of homeless acceptenances the following are the numbers of cases
accepted.

2010-11 - 227

2011-12 - 184

2012-13 - 153

2013-14 - 92

2014-15 - 105

2015-16 - 94

2016-17 - 82

2017- 18 - 136

I can confirm the council has spent any monies on housing first schemes.
There is a Merseyside Housing First scheme set up this year and is being
administered by the Liverpool city region.

Kind Regards
