Dear Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council, could you please provide information in full, or if not in part, for the following.
In this freedom of information request reference is made to third party representation. This refers to individuals who had submissions made on their behalf by a solicitors or housing advice service which is not funded by a local authority.
1) How many homeless applications were made in the financial year ending in April 2017?
2) How many homeless decisions were notified in the financial year ending in April 2017?
3) How many of the decisions referred to in Q2 were subject to a review request under s.202 of the Housing Act 1996?
4) How many of the review requests referred to in Q3 later had submissions made by a third party representative on their behalf?
5) How many of the reviews requests referred to in Q2 received a ‘minded to’ letter under Regulation 8(2) of the Allocation of Housing and Homelessness (Review Procedures) Regulations 1999?
6) How many of the applicants referred to in Q5 who received a ‘minded to’ letter had previously had a review request made on their behalf by a third party?
7) How many of the reviews requested in the financial year ending in April 2017 under s.202 of the Housing Act 1996 led to the original decision being changed following an internal review?
8) How many of the applicants who received the altered decisions referred to in Q7 had third party representation?

Thank you for your recent Freedom of Information request regarding
homeless applications and internal review statistics, please find below
in bold the responses to the questions you have asked.
In this freedom of information request reference is made to third party
representation. This refers to individuals who had submissions made on
their behalf by a solicitors or housing advice service which is not funded

Sandwell MBC received 840 homeless applications in the financial year
ending April 2017
2)How many homeless decisions were notified in the financial year ending
in April 2017?
Sandwell MBC notified of 840 homeless decisions in the financial year
ending April 2017
3)How many of the decisions referred to in Q2 were subject to a review
request under s.202 of the Housing Act 1996?
Sandwell MBC received 48 requests for review under S.202 of the Housing
Act 1996
4)How many of the review requests referred to in Q3 later had submissions
made by a third party representative on their behalf?
Of the request for Review’s received, 10 had submissions made by a third
party representative on their behalf
5)How many of the reviews requests referred to in Q2 received a ‘minded
to’ letter under Regulation 8(2) of the Allocation of Housing and
Homelessness (Review Procedures) Regulations 1999?
Of the request for Review’s received, 48 received a “minded to” letter
under Regulation 8(2) of the Allocation and Housing and Homelessness
(Review Procedures) Regulations 1999
6)How many of the applicants referred to in Q5 who received a ‘minded to’
letter had previously had a review request made on their behalf by a third
party?
Of the applicants who received a “minded to” letter, 10 had a review
request made on their behalf by a third party.
7)How many of the reviews requested in the financial year ending in April
2017 under s.202 of the Housing Act 1996 led to the original decision
being changed following an internal review?
Of the request for Reviews received, 7 applicants has their original
decision changed following and internal review.
8)How many of the applicants who received the altered decisions referred
to in Q7 had third party representation?
Of the applicants who received an altered decision following an internal
review, 6 had third party representations
