Home education and abuse - statistics

We're waiting for Mx R Vincent to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear Derbyshire County Council,

I would like to know:

A. The number of persons in the local authority of compulsory school age who are, or claimed to be, electively home educated and who have been either suspected or found to be involved in child abuse, neglect, forced marriage, sexual exploitation, radicalisation or domestic servitude.

B. How many (if any) Serious Case Reviews or Joint Area Reviews have been reported with respect to home educated children in the LA.

C. How many of these children have been put on a CIN plan.

D. How many of these children have been put into Local Authority care.

E. How many have ever attended school.

Dear Mr Vincent

 

Thank you for your information request dated 29^th April 2018.  I can
confirm that we do hold the requested information. The request has been
considered under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.  The response to
your request is as follows:

 

A.    The number of persons in the local authority of compulsory school
age who are, or claimed to be, electively home educated and who have been
either suspected or found to be involved in child abuse, neglect, forced
marriage, sexual exploitation, radicalisation or domestic servitude.

Of the current electively home educated young people known to the Local
Authority, 97 children were suspected or found to be involved in child
abuse, neglect, forced marriage, sexual exploitation, radicalisation or
domestic servitude.

 

B.   How many (if any) Serious Case Reviews or Joint Area Reviews have
been reported with respect to home educated children in the LA.

Since 2016 there have been no SCR’s in relation to Home Educated Children

 

C.   How many of these children have been put on a CIN plan.

= 48

 

D.   How many of these children have been put into Local Authority care.

= <5

Please note that numbers of less than 5 (<5) are exempt under S40(2) of
the Freedom of Information Act and are not included so as not to make
individuals identifiable.

 

E.    How many have ever attended school.

=94
