HMRC Call Centre Numbers (0845)

The request was refused by HM Revenue and Customs.

Dear HM Revenue and Customs,

HMRC senior management have advised the Public Accounts Committee that 0845 numbers are nescessary to ensure that Call Balancing ( that is the ability to switch calls from one Call Centre to another ) is operational. This balancing is intended to maximise the Call Centre resources and therefore reduce the wait time for Callers.

Some people who are firmly of the opinion that this explanation, while possibly correct with the type of telephony infrastructure used by HMRC, does not apply in to every telephony and Call Centre operation and that HMRC may have potentially bought a system which was not Best For Purpose.

1) Is the statement made to PAC factually correct

2) If the answer to 1 is yes, please provide the evidence

3) What options were considered by HMRC

4) What options were available in the marketplace

5) What were the costs to HMRC of each option

Yours faithfully,

David Baker

Dear HM Revenue and Customs,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of HM Revenue and Customs's handling of my FOI request 'HMRC Call Centre Numbers (0845)'.

[ Aidan Callan HMRC Freedom of Information Team, Room 1C/25, 100 Parliament Street, London SW1A 2BQ Telephone No 020 7147 3234, has sent me an email outwith Whatdotheyknow telling me that HMRC are refusing this FOIA request because HMRC consider it to be vexatious.

I refute such an allegation and ask you to provide a full explanation why you view this request as vexatious.

My request has been made to establish fact that is in the public interest.

I fear the real reason HMRC wish to suppress information lies in the fact that the response will not reflect well on HMRC.

Please urgently reconsider your refusal and either

1) provide the information sought or

2) confirm that the refusal remains in force providing a full explanation why you view this request as vexatious.]

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address:

Yours faithfully,

David Baker
