HM passport policy – Birth certificates and full birth certificate policy
Dear HM Passport Office,
In relation to HM passport policy – Birth certificates and full
birth certificate policy published 7th February 2012, page 4 titled
‘Certificate of registry of birth’ states ‘A certificate of
registry of birth is unsuitable for passport purposes if the name
of the child to whom it refers is not recorded. In such cases the
applicant should be advised to obtain a new birth certificate.
Is it correct that if a child's surname to whom it refer's is not
recorded on the full birth certificate, then the applicant should
obtain a new birth certificate?
In such cases where the child's surname doesn't relate to anyone on
the birth certificate, how does the applicant apply for a new birth
certificate?
Yours faithfully,
Ms. S

Dear Hughes Selwyn,
As it's already established that when this question was brought up in relation to the request of information in regards to Section 34 of the Birth and Death Act 1953, you had no knowledge of this and were adamant that the passport policy did not state that a new birth certificate should be obtained. Hence the request for the information from the passport department.
