Historical trustee data
Dear Charity Commission for England and Wales,
I am writing to request access to historical trustee data for registered charities in the UK. The data you already provide at https://register-of-charities.charitycom... only includes currently active trustees, but I would like to analyse trustee information for the previous 10 years in order to better understand trends and changes over time.
What would be the best way to gain access to that data?
Regards,
TB

Dear Charity Commission,
Thank you for your prompt response and for suggesting that I extract historical trustee data from individual charities' annual returns. I understand that this approach would provide some insight into trustee information over time.
However, I would like to respectfully point out that manually reviewing the last 5 annual returns for each charity would be a significant undertaking, which would limit my ability to conduct meaningful aggregate analysis and identify trends across the sector.
I appreciate the Commission's commitment to transparency and openness, as demonstrated by the publication of the full register download, including trustee information, on your website. I would like to request that you consider sharing historical versions of this data, which I assume are stored as backups.
Given the relatively small size of the trustee data files (~20MB), I believe that sharing this information would be a manageable task for the Commission. Doing so would enable researchers like myself to gain a deeper understanding of the charity sector's evolution over time.
I would be grateful for any guidance or assistance you can offer in this regard.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Tom Bramson
