Highways consultations regarding IGas flaring at Ellesmere Port

The request was successful.

Dear Highways England Company Limited,

I wish to ascertain what, if any, consultations have taken place between Island Gas Ltd (IGas) and the Highways Agency in respect of IGas's application to carry out flaring and related work at Ellesmere Port Wellsite, Portside One, Portside North, Ellesmere Port, CH65 2HQ.

The wellhead is less than 100m from various industrial units adjoining the site, and only 250m from the M53 motorway. The IGas application specifies 125 HGV movements during key periods.

The flaring activity involves burning off gas produced from the well in a low level “flare stack”. The combustion takes place close to ground level – the flare stack is only 8m
tall – and will be hazardous to the immediate surrounding environment.

The initial duration of the flow testing is planned to be 74 days.

I look forward to receiving your reply.

Yours faithfully,

Martin Preston
