- Do you use contractors or self-deliver highways maintenance for your local authority?
- If a contractor is used for a PFI contract, when did this contract commence and when does it end?
- Have you considered using innovated materials to fix road defects?
- Which highways maintenance contractors and sub contractors do you (or your wider main contractor) use and what activity are they responsible for?
- What plant machinery is used in your highways maintenance, both yours and your contractors / rental partners?
- What measurement criteria is used to assess the contractor’s performance? How have they performed over a 12 month period?
- What is the spending and workforce associated to each of the following – planned highways maintenance, reactive highways maintenance, capital schemes?
- Who is the individual(s) that assess the assets and machinery used in your highway maintenance?
- Do you provide your own PPE?
- What measurement do you use to identify the longevity of the highways maintenance fix?
- What innovation have you trailed for highway maintenance?

I acknowledge your request for information received on 2024-08-30

Your request is being considered and you will receive the information
requested within the statutory timescale of 20 working days (Freedom of
Information Act 2000/Environmental Information Regulations) or 1 month
from receipt (Data Protection access requests).
For your information, the Acts and Regulations define a number of
exemptions which may prevent release of the information you have
requested. There will be an assessment and if any of the exemption
categories apply then the information may not be released. In some
circumstances the decision to release information, or not, will be based
on a public interest test. You will be advised of any considerations,
subsequent decisions and your rights of appeal.

We have undertaken trials for TfWM and some in-house trials of
preventative maintenance techniques
- Which highways maintenance contractors and sub contractors do you (or
your wider main contractor) use and what activity are they responsible
for?
JA Bates Contractors Ltd, highways maintenance and reconstruction

Planers, pavers, hot boxes, rollers, small tools
- What measurement criteria is used to assess the contractor’s
performance? How have they performed over a 12 month period?
Appointed on a quality / price basis. Most economically advantageous
contractor
- What is the spending and workforce associated to each of the following –
planned highways maintenance, reactive highways maintenance, capital
schemes?
Capital scheme and planned maintenance £6.5m per annum, Reactive do not
hold records.
- Who is the individual(s) that assess the assets and machinery used in
your highway maintenance?
Asset assessment is in-house. Machinery choice is by contractor
- Do you provide your own PPE?
Yes
- What measurement do you use to identify the longevity of the highways
maintenance fix?
Whether the maintenance technique is preventative or reconstruction
- What innovation have you trailed for highway maintenance?
Various pothole techniques plus Joint and crack sealing
