Hetherington Inquiry and the Future of the Secretary of Court

Cameron Buchan made this Freedom of Information request to University of Glasgow

This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

University of Glasgow did not have the information requested.

Dear University of Glasgow,
The Hetherington Inquiry Report has criticised the Secretary of Court, David Newall, for the failed eviction which led to unprecedented scenes of unrest at Glasgow University:
“It should not have been left to one person, in this particular case the Secretary of Court, to make the decision to proceed with the opportunistic approach without any attempt being made to consult.”.
Can you please tell me what action is the University going to take against David Newall?

Yours faithfully,

Cameron Buchan

The Secretary of Court is also responsible for the introduction of Mycampus, the least student-friendly student system in the whole wide world.
The average annual salary of an academic is less than £40,000 but David Newall’s annual salary is in the region of £150,000.
Big pay, loads of authority and no responsibility!

It is unfortunate that the poor judgment shown by a small group of inexperienced managers has tarnished the reputation of one of the oldest institutions in the country.

Just consider what your average person of commonsense would think of this university’s style of management - create mayhem and rule!
