Heaters on TfL London Buses

The request was partially successful.

Dear Transport for London,

1. Please can you let us know whether heating on London buses is a TfL requirement and on bus drivers cabs?

2. Does TfL make sure that bus operators are ensuring a working heater for passengers and the bus drivers?

Yours faithfully,

Dear Mr Ahmed

Our ref: FOI-1332-1819/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 11
August 2018 asking for information about heaters on TfL London Buses. I am
sorry for the delay in replying.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that
we do hold the information you require.

1.    Please can you let us know whether heating on London buses is a TfL
requirement and on bus drivers cabs?

We can confirm that the TfL vehicle specification for London buses does
state that heating is a requirement on the bus.

2.    Does TfL make sure that bus operators are ensuring a working heater
for passengers and the bus drivers?

Operators are required to ensure that buses are properly maintained and
any faults, including those with the heating system, are rectified. TfL
carry out monitoring of vehicles to ensure that the required standards are
met, and any issues reported through our customer contact centre are
reported to the relevant bus operator.

If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate
to contact me.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached
information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
