Headcount and FTE independent school teachers

The request was partially successful.

Dear Department for Education,

I would like to request the following information under the FOI Act: how many teachers work in the independent schools sector in England?

Please can you break this down by the headcount of:
• QTS status: Qualified /unqualified teachers
• Contract type: Full time/ part time
• School type (special school/ PRU/ children’s home/ mainstream independent)
• Age of pupils: Min age of pupil admission and max age of pupil admission

Could you also supply me with the number of FTE teachers according to the above categories?

I’d be very grateful if the information could be supplied as a csv file.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Yours faithfully,

J Brady

Dear J Brady

Thank you for your request for information, which was received on 13
November 2018.

You requested:

Dear Department for Education,

I would like to request the following information under the FOI Act:  how
many teachers work in the independent schools sector in England?

Please can you break this down by the headcount of:

•         QTS status: Qualified /unqualified teachers

•         Contract type: Full time/ part time

•         School type (special school/ PRU/ children’s home/ mainstream
independent)

•         Age of pupils: Min age of pupil admission and max age of pupil
admission

Could you also supply me with the number of FTE teachers according to the
above categories?

I’d be very grateful if the information could be supplied as a csv file.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Yours faithfully,

J Brady

I have dealt with your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

A copy of the information which can be disclosed is enclosed in the format
requested.

The information that you requested about teachers with qualified teacher
status in independent schools has not been provided as it is not held by
this Department.

Whilst we collect number of hours worked by part time teachers in
independent schools, we do not collect or hold data on how many hours make
up a full time working week in independent schools and therefore are
unable to supply the number of FTE teachers.

The school type has been provided broken down by independent school and
independent special school. An independent PRU does not exist as a school
type as a PRU would be maintained by a local authority.

The Department holds some of the remainder of the information you have
requested, which can be found at Annex A.
