HCP Access to the BNF

The request was partially successful.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

If its response (FOI 0409 dated 25 February 2013) the DWP stated that the following EBM links are the only ones provided via LiMA:

- NHS Clinical Knowledge
- NHS Evidence – EBM search
- NICE – EBM guidelines
- SIGN – EBM guidelines
- Bandolier – EBM resource

However, in its response (IR 0181 dated 13 March 2013) the DWP stated:

“HCPs use their clinical knowledge when considering side effects of medication. They have access to the British National Formulary if they need to look up side effects or drug interactions.”

My questions are:-

Q1 – Is medication and associated side effects and interactions part of the HCP training provided by Atos?

Q2a - Do HCP have access to the online version of the BNF?
Q2b - If so, which organisation (Atos or the DWP) pays the subscription fee?
Q2c - If no subscription is paid by Atos or the DWP how are HCP granted access to the online version of the BNF?

Q3a – If HCP do not have access to the online version of the BNF are they provided with the most up to date hardcopy version which is published every March and September by Atos or the DWP?
Q3b – If HCP are not supplied with hardcopy versions are HCP expected to provide their own version?
Q3c – If HCP are expected to provide their own copy of the BNF how does the DWP/Atos ensure that all HCP are using the most up to date version?

Yours faithfully,

Gerald Jones

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Department for Work and Pensions's handling of my FOI request 'HCP Access to the BNF'.

The DWP is late again. Please comply with my FOIA request. Given that the DWP claims it has assigned more staff to FOIA requests please provide the reason this request hasn't been answered in time.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address:

I am writing to request an internal review of Department for Work and Pensions's handling of my FOI request 'HCP Access to the BNF'.

Still no reply since my earlier IRR which is outrageous.

The DWP has 10 working days to comply or I will complain to the ICO.
