Dear Mr D'Montigny

In response to your request for information under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000:

the number of hardship fund requests received, accepted, rejected, and the
total amount awarded for the last 12 months including this month of June,
categorised by month

please find the attached spreadsheet. For your information:

The data shows all Hardship Funds awarded from 1st June 2019 to 24th June
2020. The funds are Greenwich Hardship Fund (GHF), Summer Vacation Fund
(SVF), Commuter Bursary (CB) and the International Hardship Fund (IHF).

There will be a mismatch between the total number of applications received
and total of applications awarded or rejected. This is due to application
being submitted before the time frame or still outstanding due to pending
information we have not yet received.

Normally if we have requested further information from an applicant we
close the application after 28 days. However, due to the Coronavirus we
have left the International Hardship Fund (IHF) requests open as pending.
We have only received these from April 2020 onwards and is a unique
situation.

The Greenwich Hardship Fund (GHF) was formerly called The Access to
Learning Fund in 2018/19.

No IHF applications were received in the time frame requested.

The Commuter Bursary (CB) was introduced in 2019/20 and is part of the
Greenwich Hardship Fund (GHF) where the applicant opts if they wish to be
assessed for both funds. It is impossible to give a figure as to how many
GHF applicants applied for the CB and were rejected without reviewing
their original application form. Due to the remote working situation we
have only just started accepting electronic applications and have no
access to the original paper application.

It is difficult to demonstrate how long (on average) the process takes. If
information / documentation is missing as per the Student Check List in
the application form(s) the time frame depends on the applicant returning
the data.

If you are unhappy with this response, please detail your complaints in
writing and send to the University Secretary, Peter Garrod, University of
Greenwich, Park Row, London SE10 9LS
([1][email address]).

If you are still not happy with our response after this internal review
has taken place, you also have a right of appeal to the Information
Commissioner at: Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water
Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF ([2]www.ico.org.uk).

Yours sincerely
