Dear Nottinghamshire Police,

Following a viewing of a video on You Tube I was disgusted by what I saw in this video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEM01TdbcOk

In this video we clearly see PC S. Wright 1301 blatently threatening, harassing, and intimidating someone legally filming him. This begins with a "demand" for a copy of this video footage and an unfounded claim that he can demand a copy of this under civil rights.
He follows this up by demanding the name of the individual filming and tries various spurious tactics to obtain this information, even though he has no legal right to. This is consensual and not a legal requirement as filming in a public place is not a criminal offence, neither is filming a uniformed Police Constable.

He further claims his uniformed colleague filming them in the background is on a different purpose to the photographer, the same legislation applies equally to both photographers. Why is he suggesting and inferring the photographer is allegedly committing any offence and his uniformed colleague isn't. Law applies equally, and the Police are not above the law.

From here we see officer Wright try to threaten, lie to, amd intimidate the photographer filming him, particularly with the seizure of his phone and deleting his footage. Officer Wright has no legal powers to do this, and is clearly exceeding his powers and authority, and clearly seems to breach his sworn oath as a serving constable.

What disciplinary action has been taken against PC 1301 Wright in respect of this video footage?

What actions have been taken to educate PC 1301 Wright and other serving officers in the laws of filming in a public place to educate him to such legislation?

What actions have been taken to prevent PC 1301 Wright and other serving officers from threatening, harassing, and lying to members of the public in such cases?

What actions have been taken to educate PC 1301 Wright and other serving officers in the differences between consensual and legal requirements in regard to demands for personal information such as a persons name and address?

Yours faithfully,

Smartin

The usual curt, begrudging reply you'd expect from the family of thugs we call our police force.

How is it we have so many police officers who are ignorant to the law but given free reign to bully and intimidate members of the public on the streets? Something that we as citizens would be automatically arrested and prosecuted for - and yet they suffer nothing more than a quiet word in the ear.

It's a simple fact of ego with police officers that when they tell you to do something and you don't, they regard it as a personal affront. It doesn't matter if what they are telling you is lawful or not. The police don't like anyone delimiting their power. Therefore, they will hound and bully you into compliance. And any such suggestion by their seniors that they have been re-educated is a nonsense. This has nothing to do with their understanding of legislation. This is about the police being universally arrogant toward everything that threatens their own sense of power.

Rob, this has now been sent to their training division and all officers will be advised or trained accordingly, basically it will be added to their training programme. This means any officer acting in this way within Nottinghamshire Constabulary is liable for disciplinary procedures if they do it again.

So what have then been telling them all this time at training school then?

"Get out there lads and make it all up as you go along. But if it ends up on Youtube then come back and will teach you a bit of legislation."
