Dear T. Kell

Our Ref:         FOI-0970-1314

Thank you for your e-mail received on 3 September 2013 asking for
information about Hail and Ride bus services.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can
confirm we do hold the information you require.

General guidance to drivers is that they should stop wherever they think
it is safe, so avoiding hills/bridges and blind corners. They should also
take into account the area where passengers will be set down, so avoiding
grass verges if they need to deploy the wheelchair ramp, for example.

The Big Red Book (BRB) is TfL’s official guidelines for all bus drivers in
London. However this guidance is not currently included in the BRB, but we
will consider its inclusion in the next update.

If this is not the information you are looking for please feel free to
contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to
appeal.

Yours sincerely

Gemma Jacob
