Gypsy Traveller count

Rebecca Fletcher made this Freedom of Information request to Leicestershire County Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was partially successful.

Dear Leicestershire County Council,

Please find below a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

I am currently researching into the amount of Gypsy Traveller site provision in the East Midlands region. Due to the nature of the research I would be grateful if the following information could be supplied:

1. What was the recorded Gypsy Traveller population prior
to 1968,this may be using the figures from the 1965 Gypsy count that all local authorities were required to complete and which formed the basis for the implementation the 1968 Caravan Sites Act or the nearest available figures?

2. What was the amount of authorised Local authority, or privately owned site provision in your area in the same year? Or how many Gypsy Travellers were on authorised sites in the same year?

3. What was the recorded Gypsy Traveller population in
1974 (or nearest count after)?

4. What was the amount of authorised local authority, or privately owned site provision in your area in the same year? Or how many Gypsy Travellers were on authorised sites in the same year?

I would be grateful if you could provide these figures.

Yours faithfully,

Rebecca Fletcher
