Hello,

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request dated 29th July 2023.

Please accept my apologies for not acknowledging previously. I was awaiting confirmation from colleagues that the BFI was involved in some way in this project. I have now had this confirmation so we will respond to your enquiry as soon as possible.

Colleagues have advised you may also wish to ask Ffilm Cymru Wales the below questions as they had more direct involvement in Gweldd if you haven't already. You could start with this email address: [email address]

Hello,

Thank you for your patience while we investigate your Freedom of Information request dated 29th July 2023.

As previously mentioned you may also wish to ask Ffilm Cymru Wales the below questions as they had more direct involvement in Gwledd than the BFI.

The BFI was involved in the project to the extent that we provided delegated funding to Ffilm Cymru Wales for the multi-feature Cinematic production scheme, and this funding was awarded by Ffilm Cymru Wales to Gwledd. Ffilm Cymru Wales were therefore the primary organisation working with the project. Separately, the BFI made an award to the film under our Audiences Fund.

We are able to confirm the following.

How much did Gwledd cost to make? Please provide a breakdown of costs.
We are unable to provide this information as we consider it to be commercially sensitive information and therefore exempt from disclosure under S 43 (2) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

The BFI did make a National Lottery distribution award of £39,000 on 13 July 2022 to Picturehouse Entertainment (published here: https://www2.bfi.org.uk//film-industry/f... ) to support the UK release of the film.

How much money has Gwledd made at the box office to date?
The last box office reporting that we have seen for the film is £70,228 and that is for the UK cinema release only. These figures were taken in August 2023.

How many cinemas did Gwledd play in?
The film has played in 80 cinema sites - 26 of which were in Wales. For the latest information about the film’s release and box office in the UK, you would need to contact the distributor Picturehouse Entertainment which has the UK theatrical rights.

How many tickets were sold for Gwledd? Please provide a breakdown by country.
UK and International box office data is published on Box Office Mojo – see https://www.boxofficemojo.com/title/tt10...
However, it is important to note that there is a time lag for box office reporting and the countries listed and the totals published may not be comprehensive, i.e. it may have been released and earned revenues in more countries that are listed but it does provide some UK and international box office data.

What proportion of actors on Gwledd were Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic?
The BFI does not hold this information, you would need to contact Ffilm Cymru on [email address]

Please provide any plans about the Welsh language.
The BFI Distribution Award supported a Welsh focus to the campaign release of the film. This funding helped to support broadcast materials in the Welsh language, dual language access materials and dual language marketing materials. The BFI does not hold the plans specifically around a Welsh language release, you would need to seek further information from the film’s distributor.
