Dear Aberdeenshire Council,

Please provide a copy of the guidance issued to council staff in the use of plastics, including but not limited to the placing of laminated public notices attached to lampposts, the use of cable ties for that and other purposes, and the guidance on the removal of all such materials and avoidance of their loss and consequent environmental damage. When providing this information please confirm the date of issue and how the dissemination to staff who maybe performing such tasks is confirmed.

Further, please provide a copy of the checking process employed to monitor that all such plastic materials have been retrieved and accounted for once their use is finalised.

Yours faithfully,

Laura-Lynn Hardy

ISFOI, Aberdeenshire Council

Dear Ms Hardy

Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (“The Act”)

We refer to your request dated 10/05/2019, for information on Guidance on
use of plastics.

We confirm that the Council holds the following information, which we
believe satisfies your request, and which is as noted below.

Please provide a copy of the guidance issued to council staff in the use
of plastics, including but not limited to the placing of laminated public
notices attached to lampposts, the use of cable ties for that and other
purposes, and the guidance on the removal of all such materials and
avoidance of their loss and consequent environmental damage. When
providing this information please confirm the date of issue and how the
dissemination to staff who maybe performing such tasks is confirmed.

Further, please provide a copy of the checking process employed to monitor
that all such plastic materials have been retrieved and accounted for once
their use is finalised.

Aberdeenshire Council do not issue guidance for dealing with notices.
Legal/Public notices, as and when required are affixed to lighting
columns/telephone poles etc., using plastic cable ties or tape. On the
next suitable visit to the area, following completion of the works or the
event, the notice is removed along with the cable ties/tape and disposed
of appropriately. No date of issue of guidance or confirmation of
dissemination is available and Aberdeenshire Council do not have a formal
checking process.  However it is acknowledged that on occasions notices
are accidently left on site and staff will be reminded of the need to
remove and dispose of such notices promptly.

Please contact me as the officer responsible for responding to your
request if you have any further queries.

If, for any reason, you are not satisfied with this response, please refer
to the further information attached.

Yours faithfully
